President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the revival of Nigeria’s joint commissions with Southern African countries to enhance diplomatic, economic, and development cooperation across the region. The initiative is part of his administration’s broader foreign policy strategy to deepen trade relations, promote regional stability, and strengthen Nigeria’s leadership role within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The revived commissions will allow Nigeria to engage more systematically with individual SADC member states, addressing bilateral concerns, exploring investment opportunities, and fostering collaboration in critical sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and industrialisation. Nigeria plans to prioritize the bilateral commission with South Africa and the joint permanent commission with Namibia as formal platforms for policy dialogue and project implementation.
President Tinubu’s policy underscores the country’s commitment to regional economic integration and sustainable development. By institutionalizing these engagements, his administration aims to accelerate actionable outcomes, promote joint investments, and facilitate knowledge sharing among member states, ensuring that collaborative initiatives benefit citizens across the participating nations.
