Governor Dauda Lawal has commissioned 50 brand new luxury buses for the Zamfara State Transport Company, a move aimed at modernizing public transportation and boosting economic activities across the state.
The fleet, consisting of 18 seater air-conditioned vehicles, is equipped with GPS tracking systems, seatbelts, and durable suspension designed for both comfort and rugged terrain. Governor Lawal described the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to deliver sustainable infrastructure that improves mobility, trade, and social connectivity.
“This is not just about transportation,” the governor said. “It is about fulfilling our promise, ensuring accountability, and leaving behind a lasting legacy.”
The governor revealed that the buses were procured months earlier, but deployment was deliberately delayed to establish systems for accountability, maintenance, and management, an effort to avoid the neglect and misuse that plagued similar projects under past administrations.
In preparation, staff of the transport company including drivers, mechanics, ticketing officers, and administrators received training in ethics, technical skills, transport management, and modern systems.
Lawal also appealed to citizens to take ownership of the project by protecting the buses and ensuring they remain in good condition.
“These buses belong to all of us. Any damage or neglect is not a loss to government alone, but to every Zamfara citizen,” he emphasized.
The new fleet is expected to enhance connectivity between Zamfara and neighboring states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Abuja, Bauchi, and Gombe, improving access to trade, education, and healthcare.
With the unveiling, the Zamfara State government has signaled a new era in public transportation, combining modern infrastructure with long term sustainability measures.
