Nigeria has entered into a landmark agreement with LONGi, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, to establish a state-of-the-art solar panel production factory in the country. The agreement aims to enhance local manufacturing capacity, support renewable energy expansion, and create new employment opportunities.

The partnership, facilitated by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) on behalf of the Federal Government, was finalized during a follow-up visit by a Nigerian delegation to China. This follows an earlier signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between both parties earlier in the year.

Under the deal, LONGi will establish a 1,000-megawatt solar panel production facility in Nigeria to meet the nation’s growing demand for clean and sustainable energy. The factory is expected to significantly reduce import dependency, lower production costs, and strengthen Nigeria’s renewable energy value chain.

Speaking on the development, the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, described the agreement as a major milestone in the country’s renewable energy drive. He noted that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarization Programme, which focuses on deploying solar mini-grids to public institutions nationwide and accelerating the country’s transition to green energy while generating thousands of new jobs.
