Rúben Amorim made history on Sunday as Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2–1 at Anfield, marking his first back-to-back victories since taking charge at Old Trafford. The result also ended United’s long wait for a win on Merseyside, their first at Anfield since 2016, and delivered a major boost to their Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils made a dream start when Bryan Mbeumo struck in just the second minute, finishing calmly after being set up by Amad Diallo. Amorim’s men maintained composure throughout the first half, frustrating Liverpool with disciplined pressing and sharp transitions that prevented the home side from finding any rhythm.

United extended their lead shortly after the break when Casemiro powered home a header from Manuel Ugarte’s cross in the 57th minute. Liverpool responded almost immediately through substitute Hugo Ekitike, who reduced the deficit just five minutes later, but despite Jürgen Klopp’s side pouring forward in search of an equaliser, United’s defence — led by Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro — held firm under intense pressure.

The final whistle sparked jubilation among the United players and travelling supporters, as Amorim celebrated a defining moment in his early tenure. With back-to-back wins now secured and the team climbing back into top-four contention, Manchester United appear to be finding their rhythm at last under their Portuguese manager.
