Nigerian singer and DJ, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has set a new milestone as the first British-Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The daughter of billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, and founder of the Cuppy Foundation, anchored the session titled “The Summit of the Future – Youth Action Day” over the weekend, marking a pivotal moment in her career.
In a post on Instagram, DJ Cuppy reflected on the honor of leading the session at the prestigious 79th UNGA, describing it as one of her career’s greatest accomplishments. While she has performed as a DJ at the UNGA twice before, she expressed that hosting the opening session was “the coolest thing” she has ever done.
“It is so wonderful to be here. It is actually my second time DJing at the United Nations so I must be doing something right,” DJ Cuppy said. “I wouldn’t be standing here if not for my education… and I may not seem that cool right now, but I’ve made some pretty lady moves in my career.”
She highlighted key achievements in her journey, from interning for music mogul Jay Z to being featured twice on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list and starring in MTV Cribs. However, addressing the UN audience, she said, “The coolest thing I’ve done by far is speaking to all of you today.”
During her speech, DJ Cuppy also emphasized her passion for education, revealing that she has earned three degrees by the age of 30 and recently completed her PhD thesis. Among her academic accolades, she noted her degree from New York University (NYU) as one of the most challenging.
“I value education so much that at 30, I have three university degrees,” she shared, hinting at her continued dedication to learning and future academic achievements.
DJ Cuppy’s involvement in the UNGA is seen as a testament to her commitment to social causes and youth empowerment, further solidifying her influence both in entertainment and global advocacy.
