Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged global leaders and educators to ensure that human values remain at the core of technological progress. She made this appeal while speaking at the ‘Education Above All’ plenary of the 12th World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha, Qatar.

Addressing participants, she noted that although the world is rapidly shifting into a digital era, innovation must never overshadow the principles that define humanity. She commended Qatar’s educational achievements and reaffirmed that no religion restricts girls from receiving an education. Senator Tinubu added that the Federal Government is working to guarantee that Nigeria’s children benefit fully from the opportunities education provides.

She highlighted the outstanding contributions of Nigerian youth across multiple sectors, including the arts, fashion, film, agriculture and education. According to her, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu places strong emphasis on innovation and technology as essential drivers of human capital development. She acknowledged the benefits of digital learning, while also pointing out that young people sometimes misuse technology. She expressed optimism that continuous support and empowerment would yield better outcomes.

In her remarks, the summit host and Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, emphasized the role of education in transforming lives and preparing young people for modern jobs. Other speakers, addressing a global audience of more than 150,000 participants, stressed that artificial intelligence must be guided by ethics and human-centered values to ensure meaningful progress.

This year’s WISE Summit is themed “Humanity.IO: Human Values at the Heart of Education.”
