Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the activation of the Fusion and Trigger Room concept to strengthen coordination and ensure early action against flooding across Nigeria as the rainy season reaches its peak.
The Vice President issued the directive during a meeting of the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, stressing the need for proactive measures to mitigate the impact of floods and other climate-related disasters.
Shettima instructed the AATF, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant agencies to immediately review and update their budgets in line with approved allocations while establishing clear implementation priorities.
He emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to shifting disaster management from a reactive approach to one centered on preparedness, coordination, and early intervention.
According to the Vice President, climate-related risks are becoming more frequent and severe, making it imperative for government institutions to act before emergencies escalate into full-scale crises.
He noted that the responsibility of government extends beyond responding to disasters after they occur, stressing that vulnerable communities must be protected through timely planning and preventive action.
Shettima reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving disaster risk management and strengthening national resilience against flooding and other environmental challenges.
