Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has announced that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has instituted a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit against her over allegations of sexual harassment which she previously made public. In a Facebook post on Friday, she stated that the suit was filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
The senator shared a court order issued by Justice U.P. Kekemeke directing that she be served through substituted means, specifically via the Clerk of the National Assembly. The order was granted on November 6, with the case scheduled to commence on January 21, 2026. Akpoti-Uduaghan said she welcomes the development, insisting it finally gives her the opportunity to present her allegations formally.
She added that the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges had earlier declined to hear her complaint, citing an existing lawsuit filed by Akpabio’s wife. According to her, the new defamation case now provides “a chance to prove” her claims and detail what she described as retaliatory actions that followed her refusal to comply with alleged demands.
