
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deploying emerging technologies and intelligence-driven operations to combat insecurity and strengthen national security across the country.
The President made the declaration during the grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and African Land Forces Forum (ALFF) held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
President Tinubu said the Federal Government is modernising the Armed Forces through investments in advanced military hardware, personnel training, and improved operational planning to enhance combat readiness and address evolving security threats.
According to him, the administration is focused on leveraging technology, innovation, and research to improve the effectiveness of military operations and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to respond to contemporary security challenges.
The President also highlighted ongoing efforts to revitalise the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), noting that the initiative is aimed at boosting local production of military equipment, creating jobs, and reducing dependence on foreign defence supplies.
He described the African Land Forces Forum as an important platform for strengthening regional cooperation, defence diplomacy, and the exchange of expertise among African military institutions.
President Tinubu commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their dedication, sacrifice, and contributions to national and regional security, describing them as a source of pride for Nigeria and the African continent.
He paid tribute to fallen soldiers who lost their lives in service to the nation, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten and that the government remains committed to supporting their families.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who also addressed the gathering, praised the Nigerian Army for its role in maintaining peace and security, while calling for continued improvements in the welfare of military personnel.
In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens, despite the evolving security landscape.
The event featured military displays, demonstrations, strategic engagements, and the presentation of Chief of Army Staff Commendation Awards, with senior government officials, military leaders, and dignitaries in attendance.
