FG Ends Raycon Contract on Calabar–Itu Road: Can Hitech Deliver in 60 Days?

Share

The Federal Government has terminated the contract of Raycon Construction Nigeria Ltd. over what it described as poor performance on the Calabar–Itu Highway.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who announced the decision during an inspection tour, said the project had suffered unacceptable delays. He described the road’s condition as critical and ordered an emergency intervention.

The contract has now been reassigned to Hitech Construction Company, which is expected to complete the remaining 9.7-kilometre stretch within 60 days. The firm is scheduled to begin day-and-night operations immediately.

Government officials say measurements will be taken to determine the value of work Raycon has already completed, while Hitech takes full control of the project.

The highway is a major link in the Lagos–Calabar coastal corridor, and its restoration is expected to ease travel and boost economic activity across the region. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
