The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS) has announced the suspension of several senior officers involved in the investigation of allegations against popular social media figure, Bobrisky. The suspension of the officers follows an internal probe into misconduct and breaches of protocol within various custodial centers.
Among those suspended are Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-Kiri, Lagos State, and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre in the same location.
The NCOS Board has also taken disciplinary action against other officers, including ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, who was based at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Afikpo, Ebonyi State. Obinna was suspended following allegations that he escorted a convicted inmate to a location outside the custodial facility.
Additionally, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja, was also placed on suspension. Ikechukwu faces allegations of accepting funds on behalf of an inmate, a serious breach of the NCOS’s code of conduct.
The NCOS’s decision to suspend these officers underscores its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity within the correctional system. Investigations into the allegations are ongoing, with further actions expected based on the findings.
The NCOS has reassured the public that it remains steadfast in its duty to maintain order and transparency in all its operations, especially in high-profile cases.
