Minister of Finance Launches Project Phoenix to Reform Nigeria’s Lottery and Gaming Sector

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, presided over the inaugural meeting of the Joint Committee for the Implementation of the Revenue Assurance Platform (RAP) yesterday, signaling a significant shift in Nigeria’s lottery and gaming sector. The meeting marked the launch of Project Phoenix, an ambitious initiative aimed at boosting revenue generation and transparency within the industry.

Project Phoenix is designed to establish a transparent and efficient system for revenue collection, maximizing government earnings while protecting Nigerian citizens from fraud. The initiative also seeks to strengthen regulatory frameworks, ensure industry compliance, recover outstanding revenues from operators, and deploy advanced monitoring systems to safeguard consumers.

Key objectives of the project include the successful deployment of the Revenue Assurance Platform (RAP), the recovery of unpaid revenues, and the development of policy recommendations to further improve the sector. The Honourable Minister emphasized the importance of boosting domestic resources to support the nation’s economy and social programs, noting that RAP would ensure both transparency in revenue collection and consumer protection from fraudulent practices.

Mr. Edun urged the committee members to work collaboratively to achieve the project’s goals, assuring them of his full support.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Tosin Adeyanju (Executive Secretary, NLTF), Agboro Michael (ICPC), Ebelo Friday (EFCC), Mohammad Jiya (NFIU), Dare Daramola, Barr. Yakubu Bello Bashir (Byuan Resources), Comrade O. Ogenyi (Byuan Resources), Jummai Katagum (FMF), and Ayodeji Odusote (FMF).

Project Phoenix is expected to be a game-changer in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its lottery and gaming sector, enhancing both revenue generation and regulatory oversight.
