Can Nigeria’s Agriculture Sustain Its 2025 Recovery?

Share

Nigeria’s agricultural sector has recorded a modest recovery this year, signaling slow but steady improvement in one of the country’s key economic drivers.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows growth of 2.82% in Q2 2025, rising to 3.79% in Q3, with agriculture contributing about 26.8% to GDP. Increased production of staples like rice, maize, sorghum, and cassava has helped ease food prices and improve affordability.
Experts say government support over ₦800 billion in budget allocations, mechanization programs, and initiatives like the National Agricultural Growth and Agro-Pocket Project (NAGS-AP) has boosted outputs.
However, challenges persist. Farmers face falling farmgate prices, high input costs, and insecurity, which threaten sustainable growth.
With broader economic indicators such as GDP growth of nearly 3.9% in Q3 and a rising PMI of 56.4, the sector shows promise but whether Nigeria can maintain momentum remains uncertain. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
