President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to boost investment in police training, intelligence gathering, and modern law enforcement systems, aiming to transform the Nigeria Police Force into a world-class institution. Speaking at the National Police Day Grand Parade and Procession in Abuja, and represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President emphasized that national progress depends on a secure social environment and that the state has a moral duty to empower its security agencies. He paid tribute to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as part of the nation’s moral conscience, while commending serving officers for their dedication.

President Tinubu urged officers to uphold professionalism, fairness, and fidelity to the rule of law, stressing that uniforms and badges symbolize service and duty, not power. He also called for stronger collaboration between citizens and law enforcement, highlighting that community-centered policing is vital for effective security and public trust. Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, assured that the force is committed to discipline, accountability, and professionalism, supporting officers who serve with integrity.

The celebration concluded with march pasts, processions, and tactical displays by police units and cadets from the Police Academy. Dignitaries in attendance included deputy governors, representatives of the Senate President and Speaker of the House, service chiefs, former IGPs, the President of the Police Officers Wives Association, senior government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps. The event highlighted the government’s commitment to modernizing law enforcement and recognizing the sacrifices of Nigeria’s police officers.
