Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Presidency has intensified efforts to manage growing tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) over National Assembly primaries and return tickets.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, held separate meetings with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and APC governors.
The meetings, held in Abuja, focused on resolving disputes surrounding the party’s National Assembly primaries and reducing friction between governors and lawmakers seeking return tickets.
Sources within the party said the Presidential Supervision Team was set up to coordinate and monitor the APC primaries process following complaints that some governors were attempting to dominate the nomination process in their states.
The consultations also reportedly addressed demands by some senators and House of Representatives members seeking governorship tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.
A harmonised continuity list is expected to be forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of efforts to maintain party unity and avoid internal crises before the elections.
