A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Gwale Constituency, Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mai Rigar Fata, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after failing to secure the party’s return ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawmaker was formally received in Abuja by former Kano State governor and prominent NDC leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other political associates who also joined the party.

Mai Rigar Fata represents Gwale Local Government Area, the political base of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Reports indicate that he was initially elected into the Assembly under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) before later aligning with the APC during the recent political realignments in Kano.

The latest defection adds to the growing wave of political movements in Kano and across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly following recent opposition realignments involving key political figures.
