Governorship primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) across several states produced victories for prominent party figures, including Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), Senator Sharafadeen Alli, former House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who all emerged as APC governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
Other winners announced from the primaries include Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and Muhammad Gubio, who also secured victories in their respective contests. Meanwhile, the APC announced the rescheduling of governorship primaries in Kwara and Bauchi states.
One of the major highlights of the exercise was the victory of Senator Sharafadeen Alli in Oyo State. Alli defeated the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, after reportedly winning across all 33 local government areas of the state. He will now fly the APC flag in the February 16, 2027 governorship election.
In Rivers State, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, emerged as the APC governorship candidate following the conclusion of the party’s primary election held on Thursday.
