An investigative panel has found no evidence that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, a well-known crossdresser, slept outside prison walls during her six-month sentence for naira abuse.

Bobrisky was sentenced on April 12, 2024, and released on August 5, 2024, under the usual remission rules. The investigation was initiated by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, after a video surfaced online, posted by activist VeryDarkMan, in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have bribed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials to drop money laundering charges.

In the video, a voice purported to be Bobrisky also claimed that a “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), arranged for her to serve her sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison.

On September 30, Tunji-Ojo formed an investigative panel, led by Magdalena Ajani, the permanent secretary of the ministry of interior, to look into allegations of corruption and other violations against the NCoS.

Reading the phase one report of the panel, Uju Agomoh, executive director of the Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), stated that the panel found no evidence that Bobrisky spent any time outside the custodial centre during her imprisonment. The panel confirmed that Bobrisky served the entirety of her sentence from April to August 2024 under the applicable corrections protocol.

The investigation into other aspects of the case, including the alleged bribery and influence of high-ranking officials, is ongoing.
