The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, alongside other stakeholders, has called for greater inclusion of young people in governance and decision-making processes across Nigeria.

Speaking at a public engagement on youth participation, Hamzat emphasized that the energy, innovation, and creativity of young Nigerians are essential for national development and effective governance. He noted that excluding youths from leadership spaces limits the country’s ability to fully harness its human capital.

He urged government institutions, political parties, and private sector actors to create more opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to policy formulation and implementation.

Other speakers at the event echoed similar sentiments, stressing the need for intentional policies that promote youth empowerment, leadership training, and political inclusion.

They also highlighted that increasing youth participation in governance would strengthen democracy, improve accountability, and drive sustainable development across all sectors of the economy.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for reforms that ensure young Nigerians are not only participants in elections but active contributors in governance structures at all levels.
