The Headquarters of the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, has paid tribute to fallen military personnel while offering prayers for wounded soldiers and veterans as part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026.

The interdenominational church service, held at St. Christopher Military Church, TA Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, brought together senior military officers, personnel, veterans, and their families to reflect on the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and seek divine guidance for the nation.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, military authorities urged officers and soldiers to remain steadfast in their commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting its citizens. The message also encouraged personnel to honour the memory of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty and to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army.

Prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of fallen heroes, the speedy recovery of wounded personnel, the well-being of veterans, and lasting peace, unity, and security across the country.

The event also highlighted the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel through enhanced healthcare, accommodation, training, and other support initiatives.

The church service is one of several activities lined up to commemorate the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration under the theme, “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army.” Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
