The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued access codes to nearly all registered political parties, enabling them to upload the particulars of their candidates to the commission’s nomination portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was yet to collect its access code as of Tuesday evening, making it the only registered party that had not completed the process.

INEC officials confirmed that all other registered political parties had received their access credentials, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), despite ongoing legal proceedings involving the party.

According to commission sources, the decision to grant the NDC access was based on the party’s appeal and application for a stay of execution relating to a court judgment affecting its status, pending the final determination of the matter.

The access codes are required for political parties to upload the details of their candidates through INEC’s Candidate Nomination Portal in accordance with the commission’s electoral timetable.

INEC had earlier conducted training sessions for party representatives on the use of the nomination portal and reiterated that preparations for the 2027 elections remain on schedule.

The development comes as political parties intensify efforts to meet nomination deadlines and conclude internal processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
