Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi, has cautioned that Nigeria could face serious instability ahead of the 2027 general elections if the country’s political leaders continue to prioritize personal ambition over national development.

Obi expressed concern over what he described as growing political tension and unhealthy competition among politicians, warning that the increasing desperation for power could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process and threaten national peace.

He urged political leaders to embrace issue-based politics, respect the rule of law, and place the welfare of Nigerians above partisan interests. According to him, credible elections, strong democratic institutions, and responsible leadership are essential to safeguarding the country’s future.

The former Anambra State governor also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure that the electoral process remains free, fair, transparent, and credible.

Obi maintained that Nigeria’s numerous economic and security challenges require leaders who are committed to national progress rather than political rivalry, stressing that the country’s unity and stability must not be sacrificed for electoral gains.

His comments come as political activities and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to intensify across the country, with major political parties and aspirants already positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
