The Federal Government has launched the National Cancer Control Plan (2026–2030), a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing Nigeria’s cancer burden by 30 percent by the year 2030.

The plan is designed to strengthen cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, research and access to quality cancer care across the country.

According to the Federal Government, the initiative prioritises improved public awareness, early diagnosis, timely treatment and the expansion of cancer care services to improve survival rates and patient outcomes.

The strategy also focuses on advancing cancer research, strengthening data management systems, integrating artificial intelligence into cancer care and enhancing evidence-based policymaking.

In addition, the National Cancer Control Plan places emphasis on developing Nigeria’s oncology workforce through specialised training and capacity building to improve the delivery of cancer services nationwide.

The Federal Government said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system and improving access to quality cancer prevention and treatment services for all Nigerians.
