The Federal Government, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has commenced the restoration of the 225-megawatt Gbarain Power Plant in Bayelsa State as part of efforts to improve electricity generation and strengthen the national grid.

The rehabilitation is being undertaken by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), which has formally handed over the project to a joint venture between TILT Energy Limited and Schneider Electric for the replacement of the plant’s damaged Power Control Module.

The Gbarain Power Plant has remained inactive since a fire in November 2020 destroyed a critical component of the facility shortly before its planned commissioning. The restoration project is expected to return the 225MW gas-fired plant to operation and increase electricity supply to the national grid.

NDPHC said the project is expected to be completed within 12 months, with complementary infrastructure also being developed to support the plant’s operations.

The Federal Government said the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by expanding power generation capacity, improving grid stability and supporting economic growth through more reliable electricity supply.
