A Russian strike on an infrastructure facility in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, located near the front line, killed six people and wounded 23 others, authorities reported on Tuesday.

Zaporizhzhia, an industrial city with a pre-war population exceeding 700,000, lies approximately 35 kilometers from the nearest Russian positions. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia region, announced the casualties on social media, while prosecutors confirmed that a civilian infrastructure facility had been damaged by a ballistic missile strike.

Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to the Ukrainian president, emphasized that the attack highlighted Ukraine’s urgent need for greater support from its allies. “This violence must be stopped by strong action. A stronger stance from allies is needed,” he wrote on social media.

In recent weeks, Russian aerial bombardments of Zaporizhzhia have intensified, and analysts of the conflict suggest the Kremlin may be planning an offensive toward the city this winter. Although Russia claimed to annex the broader Zaporizhzhia region in late 2022, it does not maintain full military control there.

Meanwhile, in a separate attack in the eastern Kharkiv region, Russian shelling killed a 48-year-old man and woman in the village of Glushkivka. Russian forces are also advancing in Kharkiv and exerting pressure on Kupiansk, a civilian center where authorities have urged residents to evacuate.
