
Britain’s Prince William met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday in Cape Town during his four-day visit to South Africa, focusing on environmental initiatives and strengthening UK-South Africa relations.
The Prince of Wales began his visit with a nature walk alongside rangers and conservationists at Table Mountain National Park, immersing himself in South Africa’s natural beauty and discussing wildlife conservation efforts.
Prince William’s trip centers around the annual Earthshot Prize awards, which will take place in Cape Town on Wednesday. Launched in 2020, the Earthshot Prize awards five winners £1 million each to support innovative climate solutions worldwide. South Africa’s presidency expressed pride in hosting this year’s ceremony, underlining the significance of addressing climate change’s impact on Africa.
In video footage shared by Ramaphosa’s office, the two leaders were seen shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries, reflecting the strong, historic ties between the UK and South Africa. President Ramaphosa’s office described the visit as “another step towards the deepening of these historic ties” with the UK and the Royal Family.
Prince William is also expected to attend a global wildlife summit and other climate-centered engagements, underscoring his commitment to environmental advocacy and strengthening cross-continental partnerships for sustainable solutions.
