The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports alleging that suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attacked the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, insisting that the school remains safe and fully operational.

The ministry said its internal verification, including direct communication with the school principal, confirmed that there was no attack on the institution and that academic activities were continuing without disruption.

Speaking on Sunday, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, said investigations launched after the reports emerged found no evidence of any security breach.

“There is no attack. Our findings have shown that, contrary to media reports, there was no attack at the school. We can confirm that,” she said.

According to the ministry, all students and staff are safe, and normal school activities are ongoing.

The clarification followed media reports claiming that ISWAP insurgents carried out a pre-dawn attack on the school, killing students and attempting to abduct others.

The reports also alleged that the college, currently serving as temporary accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno, was targeted around 1:30 a.m.

Some reports further cited a statement attributed to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Mohammed Goni, claiming that troops, supported by personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), foiled an attempted abduction of 46 students.

However, the Ministry of Education maintained that its independent verification found the school secure and described reports of students being killed as false.
