Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritise grassroots engagement, trust-building and effective mobilisation as the party prepares for future electoral contests. She gave the charge during a meeting with APC women leaders drawn from across the country, stressing that political success depends on maintaining strong connections with constituents.

Speaking at the gathering, the First Lady said politics is driven by numbers and public trust rather than gender. She noted that elected officials must remain accessible to the people who supported them into office, warning that many politicians lose relevance after elections because they fail to sustain relationships with their constituents. Senator Tinubu highlighted her record of holding quarterly town hall meetings throughout her eight years in the Senate, describing grassroots engagement as essential to effective leadership.

She further emphasised the importance of building lasting relationships with supporters, saying political leaders must make people feel valued, respected and included. According to her, trust and consistent outreach remain key factors in winning and retaining public support. She encouraged APC women leaders to strengthen mobilisation efforts through voter education, sensitisation campaigns and regular engagement at community level.

The First Lady also advised women in politics to balance their public responsibilities with family life, stressing the importance of maintaining strong homes while pursuing political careers. She said women can successfully combine both roles and called for greater attention to family values as a foundation for national stability.

Earlier, APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, commended Senator Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative and described the APC women’s wing as one of the strongest grassroots mobilisation structures in the country. She said women leaders across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, local governments and wards have remained critical to the party’s electoral achievements and noted that the emergence of new state and zonal women leaders reflects growing confidence in women’s leadership within the APC.

The event concluded with Senator Oluremi Tinubu presenting eight buses to APC women leaders from different zones of the country to support their mobilisation activities.
