The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the availability of its Contactless Passport Application System app, “NIS Mobile,” on Google Playstore. The app is designed to simplify and modernize the passport renewal process for Nigerians living abroad by enabling online applications and reducing the need for in-person visits to NIS offices.
The phased implementation of the system began in Canada on November 1 and was extended to the United States on November 15. According to the NIS, global access to the application system will start on December 1, 2024.
The app’s current geo-fencing feature limits its use to Nigerians residing in Canada and the USA until the global rollout. The announcement was made via a statement on the NIS official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, November 24.
The statement reads:
“The Contactless Passport Application System app is now available on Google Playstore as ‘NIS Mobile.’ Please remember that the worldwide usage would commence from December 1st. The current geo-fencing feature means it’s only available for use by Nigerians in Canada and the USA.”
This innovation marks a significant step forward in modernizing Nigeria’s passport services, enhancing efficiency and convenience for Nigerians abroad.
