Bauchi Governor Ends APC Defection Talks Over Failure to Agree on 60/40 Power-Sharing Formula

The planned defection of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has collapsed following a disagreement over a proposed power-sharing arrangement.

The talks reportedly broke down after the APC rejected a 60/40 formula proposed for sharing control of the party structure in Bauchi State.

Party sources said the discussions involved key political stakeholders and were part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, both sides failed to reach a consensus on how party positions and structures would be allocated if the governor defected.

It was gathered that the governor’s camp insisted on the 60/40 arrangement to ensure fair integration into the APC, given its existing political influence across the state. The APC, however, was said to have opposed the demand, leading to an impasse.

Following the disagreement, the defection talks were reportedly discontinued, with both sides expected to reassess their political strategies moving forward.

The development marks a setback in efforts to realign political forces in Bauchi State ahead of the next election cycle.
