A major crackdown on illegal oil theft in Lagos has led to the arrest of six suspected bunkerers following a raid by troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion in the Orile General Area.

The operation, conducted on July 16, was launched after security operatives received credible intelligence on the activities of suspected economic saboteurs in the area.

Military authorities said the raid led to the recovery of four drums, including two containing suspected illegally refined petroleum products. A white Ford bus and a tanker believed to have been used for the operation were also seized.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, disclosed that the suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and prosecution.

Commending the troops, the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, described the operation as another step in the military’s efforts to curb economic sabotage and safeguard critical national assets.
