Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to restoring peace and stability across Nigeria, assuring citizens that ongoing efforts to address insecurity remain a top priority of government.
Shettima gave the assurance on Friday in Abuja shortly after a special Jummat prayer held at the National Mosque to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebrations.
He urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for peace, unity, and national stability, noting that the country’s collective strength lies in the bonds that unite its people rather than the differences that divide them.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation. No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
The Vice President also disclosed that the Federal Government is making sustained efforts to ensure the safe return of citizens currently held by bandits and terrorist groups, while paying tribute to past heroes who contributed to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
In his remarks, the Imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, called on Nigerians to remain patriotic and committed to national unity. He also urged leaders at all levels to take decisive steps in addressing security challenges, stressing that peace remains essential for national development and citizens’ welfare.
The annual Democracy Day prayer service, according to organizers, provides an opportunity for reflection, unity, and supplication as the nation celebrates democratic governance while confronting security and developmental challenges.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola; and former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Others present were former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; and the outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede.
