The Federal Government has officially flagged off the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, a major component of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Dualization Project, with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, expressing confidence that Nigeria’s security challenges will be overcome under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Gombe State on Thursday, Umahi described the project as another demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development and national unity. He also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as the remarkable transformation of Gombe State.

The minister disclosed that the Federal Government had expanded the scope of the Gombe–Biu section following requests from the state government and assured residents that construction activities would commence within the next 30 days.

According to him, the Gombe–Biu section is part of the approximately 700-kilometre Fourth Legacy Project stretching from Akwanga through Jos, Bauchi, Gombe and Biu to Maiduguri.

Umahi explained that the contract was awarded to HITECH after a competitive procurement process involving five other companies.

Addressing the country’s security situation, the minister cautioned against politicising insecurity, stressing that national security should remain a collective responsibility.

He expressed concern over what he described as recurring spikes in insecurity during election periods and urged Nigerians to support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.

The minister maintained that President Tinubu had demonstrated strong leadership in stabilising key sectors of the economy and would also succeed in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

He said ongoing economic reforms were yielding positive results, noting that improvements in macroeconomic indicators would gradually translate into benefits at the grassroots level.

Umahi further described President Tinubu as a leader committed to delivering critical infrastructure projects that had remained unrealised for decades, citing the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Akwanga–Maiduguri Corridor as examples of landmark projects being actualised under the current administration.

He expressed optimism that both the infrastructure and security objectives of the administration would be achieved, saying the government remained focused on delivering lasting development and stability across the country.
