The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the academic certificates and credentials submitted by candidates seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi said making candidates’ credentials publicly available would enhance transparency, strengthen public confidence in the electoral process, and promote accountability among those seeking public office.
The former Anambra State governor argued that greater scrutiny of candidates’ qualifications would help address concerns over false declarations and certificate-related controversies in Nigeria’s political system.
He also urged INEC and relevant authorities to ensure thorough verification of credentials submitted by political aspirants as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of the 2027 elections.
Obi maintained that transparency and accountability should remain central to the country’s democratic process as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.
