The battle for the first major silverware of the 2024/25 season intensifies this midweek, with Premier League leaders Liverpool and second-placed Arsenal both set to feature in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal will host Newcastle United in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium today, while Liverpool travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow. The two fixtures promise high drama as both sides look to take significant steps toward Wembley.

Fresh from their 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday, Newcastle United will aim to build on their momentum and secure a favorable result ahead of the return leg at St. James’ Park. The Magpies have already beaten Arsenal 1-0 earlier this season, and another strong performance could leave the Gunners facing a difficult task in the second leg. However, Newcastle will be without their key midfielder, Bruno Guimarāes, due to suspension, which could hamper their efforts.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are battling illness issues within the squad, with Kai Havertz missing the last two matches. Despite these setbacks, the Gunners will view this competition as a crucial opportunity for silverware, especially with their league title hopes currently fading. Arsenal has not lifted the Carabao Cup in 31 years, adding further significance to this tie.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to avoid a repeat of their recent 6-3 thrashing by Liverpool when they face the defending champions on Wednesday. Spurs have struggled at home, managing just one win in their last eight matches across all competitions—a narrow 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the quarterfinals. Their last taste of silverware came 17 years ago when they won the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool, who have lost just one match all season, are chasing an ambitious quadruple. A victory over Spurs would put them on the verge of securing a spot in the final at Wembley, further fueling their pursuit of glory on multiple fronts.
