The Federal Government has commended the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, expressing hope that the development will alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
This was disclosed in a press release issued on Monday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statement highlighted Nigeria’s optimism that the agreement, which comes after 15 months of intense conflict, will significantly ease the suffering of civilians in the region.
The ceasefire agreement includes provisions for delivering vital humanitarian aid and relief materials to affected areas. It also offers a pathway for resolving the plight of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.
The Federal Government acknowledged the critical role played by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in mediating the agreement and serving as international guarantors for its implementation.
“Nigeria urges all stakeholders to build on the new momentum and work towards the successful implementation of the second and third phases of the agreement,” the statement read. It reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for a two-state solution as a sustainable framework for lasting peace between Palestine and Israel.
The government further emphasized the need for all parties to maintain the momentum of peace and collaborate in ensuring the full execution of the accord.
“Nigeria also welcomes the supply of much-needed aid and relief materials that the peace deal facilitates,” the statement added, reiterating the country’s commitment to promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the region.
The ceasefire agreement marks a significant step toward ending hostilities and restoring stability in the region, a goal the Federal Government believes is crucial for achieving long-term peace.
