Troops of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), in collaboration with the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have successfully foiled a terrorist attack on the Tor Donga Yam Market in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation was launched following a distress call received while troops were conducting routine fighting and confidence-building patrols in the area. On arrival, security personnel engaged the attackers in a gun battle, neutralising two suspected terrorists identified as Dantaraba and Golozo.
During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, one damaged pistol, one pistol magazine, six rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, ATM cards, and other personal belongings believed to belong to the suspects.
Military authorities said the swift response prevented what could have been a major attack on traders and residents at the popular yam market, allowing commercial activities to continue without disruption.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and bravery, the Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, also praised the Benue State Civil Protection Guard for its effective collaboration. He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that collective vigilance remains vital to tackling insecurity.
