The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 90 suspected illegal immigrants allegedly involved in various levels of cybercrimes targeting innocent Nigerians.
The suspects, apprehended in collaboration with other security agencies, were detained at their hideout in Rivers State based on credible intelligence. According to the Rivers State Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. YI Abdulmajeed, 94 individuals were initially arrested, including 85 Cameroonians, five Chadians, and four Nigerians. Among them, 74 are males and 20 females.
Investigations revealed that the 90 foreigners entered the country through unauthorized routes and failed to provide residence permits or travel documents during interrogation.
In addition, two Nigerians from Rivers State, identified as landlords who provided accommodation to the suspects, were also arrested for their involvement.
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has directed that steps be taken to repatriate the foreigners to their respective countries. This move underscores the agency’s commitment to curbing illegal migration and safeguarding Nigeria’s internal security.
