Armed terrorists have launched a fresh attack on Ungwan Atiku village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing one resident and abducting 11 others, including three nursing mothers and their infants.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, threw the community into panic as the assailants reportedly invaded the village, opened fire on residents, and whisked away several people to an unknown destination.
The deceased was identified as Joseph Simon.
Those abducted include Deborah David and her infant, Rejoice Jonathan and her infant, Deborah Aminu and her infant, Loise Geoffrey, Gerard Geoffrey, Mercy Timothy, Jummai Sunday, and Wisdom Doctor.
A former media aide to the late Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, Reuben Buhari, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Southern Kaduna. He noted that the latest attack comes while many victims kidnapped in previous attacks on Awon and Ariko communities are still being held captive.
Residents have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and strengthen security across vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
