President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who passed away on Thursday at the age of 81.
In a statement, the President joined the government and people of Plateau State in mourning the loss of the retired military officer, extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, military colleagues, and political associates.
Reflecting on Useni’s illustrious career, President Tinubu praised his courage, dedication, and commitment to national service. He noted that as a former Governor of old Bendel State, Minister of Transport, and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, Useni inspired many young officers to place national interests above personal gain.
The President also highlighted Useni’s contributions to Nigerian politics. As Deputy National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Useni made significant efforts to improve governance and represent his people.
President Tinubu offered prayers for the repose of Useni’s soul and for God Almighty to grant his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
Lieutenant-General Useni’s legacy of service, both in the military and in politics, remains a source of inspiration to many Nigerians.
