The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has dismissed recent social media claims that it is reallocating funds meant for contractors to support the governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Monday, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs at NDDC, refuted these allegations. He emphasized that the reports are entirely false and expressed concern over the anonymous sources behind the rumors. Thompson-Wakama urged the public to ignore this misinformation.
The NDDC stressed that its primary mission is to expedite the development of the Niger Delta region and improve the lives of its residents, and that it does not engage in sponsoring political parties or election candidates.
The statement clarified: “The Niger Delta Development Commission is aware of circulating online reports claiming that it is diverting funds meant for contractors to support the Edo APC governorship campaign. These claims are completely unfounded and based on anonymous sources.
“To clarify, NDDC does not fund political parties or candidates at any level. Our sole focus is on advancing the development of the Niger Delta region.”
The NDDC Board and Management are committed to their mission of “Making a Difference” in the Niger Delta. The statement further noted that the NDDC is dedicated to transparency and accountability, which is reflected in their recent engagement with KPMG to enhance corporate governance and internal processes.
The NDDC also held a meeting with the Advisory Committee, which includes governors from the nine Niger Delta states, to review and oversee the Commission’s activities. The NDDC reaffirmed its commitment to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and collaborate with development partners and state governments to create a socially stable, economically prosperous, ecologically sustainable, and politically peaceful Niger Delta region.
The NDDC assured stakeholders and the public that it will remain focused on its objectives and continue to make a positive impact in the region.
