President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched Project 365, a bold national health initiative aimed at eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat in Nigeria by the year 2030. This ambitious project is part of the administration’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to improve public health outcomes and strengthen disease control infrastructure nationwide.
Unveiled through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Project 365 will deploy a strategic action plan to enhance prevention, early detection, and treatment of Hepatitis B and C across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The initiative is structured to run for 365 days annually over the next five years and will involve community engagement, mass testing, vaccination campaigns, public awareness drives, and provision of free or subsidized treatment for identified patients.
The programme also prioritizes capacity-building for healthcare workers and expansion of testing and treatment centres, especially in rural and underserved areas. By integrating hepatitis services into primary healthcare centres, the project seeks to ensure sustainability and nationwide reach.
President Tinubu’s administration views hepatitis elimination as a key pillar in its broader public health transformation strategy, alongside efforts to combat malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and non-communicable diseases. The government has also secured international partnerships and domestic funding to drive implementation of Project 365.
This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s vision for a healthier, more resilient Nigeria and reinforces the country’s alignment with global health targets set by the World Health Organization.
