The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has formally petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demanding the prosecution of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, for disrupting airport operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, saw the singer allegedly block a moving ValueJet aircraft in protest after being barred from boarding a Lagos-bound flight.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu stated that K1’s actions violated aviation safety regulations, prompting the agency to request a full criminal investigation and prosecution in accordance with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023. The Authority also imposed a six-month ban on the singer and warned that any airline flying him would risk losing its operating license. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, reacting to viral footage of the incident, described the singer’s conduct as “akin to a hostage situation” and ordered that he be placed on a no-fly list.

The controversy began when airport staff allegedly denied the singer boarding due to a flask containing alcohol, which he reportedly spilled on an official during a confrontation. In response to the chaos, NCAA also suspended two ValueJet pilots for taxiing the aircraft amid the commotion. Despite the singer’s ties to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC, authorities insist the law must take its course to preserve aviation safety.
