
Nigeria’s Consul-General in Cameroon, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, has died.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed his passing in a statement issued Wednesday by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
According to the ministry, Ambassador Coker died on Saturday, August 16, after a brief illness.
Ebienfa described the late envoy as “a hardworking and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction and professionalism in different capacities.” He added, “His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large.”
Before his posting to Buea, Cameroon, Ambassador Coker had represented Nigeria in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, where he was noted for his professionalism and commitment to service.
The ministry extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues and friends at this difficult time and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement read.
Ambassador Taofik Coker’s death marks a significant loss for Nigeria’s diplomatic corps, particularly in its bilateral engagement with Cameroon, where he played a key role in strengthening ties.
