De Laurentiis Explains Why He Rejected PSG’s €200m Osimhen-Kvaratskhelia Bid

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed he turned down a €200m package deal from Paris Saint-Germain for Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, insisting he did so to honour a promise to head coach Antonio Conte, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, De Laurentiis confirmed PSG’s offer but said loyalty to Conte outweighed financial gain. “I could have sold them at that moment. PSG had offered over €200m for the Kvara and Osimhen package. However, I had promised Conte I would keep him, and I didn’t feel like going back on my word. With those funds, the idea was to buy Gyökeres,” he explained.

Kvaratskhelia eventually joined PSG for €75m in January, but De Laurentiis said the move was forced by his agent’s threats to invoke Article 17. “After his extraordinary first season, we negotiated a contract extension, offering a significant salary increase. But his agent, Mamuka Jugeli, had other plans and even threatened legal action,” he added, accusing the agent of stalling talks during Euro 2024 and making false claims about unpaid promises.

Both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia were pivotal in Napoli’s historic 2022/23 Serie A triumph — the club’s first in 33 years. Osimhen finished as top scorer, while Kvaratskhelia was named league MVP.

Since then, both have departed: Kvaratskhelia to PSG and Osimhen to Galatasaray, each for €75m.
