Shettima, Sultan, and Northern Leaders Pay Final Respects to Late Emir of Zuru

ZURU, Kebbi State – Vice President Kashim Shettima led a federal government delegation to Zuru on Friday, August 22, 2025, to attend the funeral of the late Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (rtd), who passed away on August 16, 2025, at the age of 81 after a brief illness. The Emir was laid to rest in a private garden within his residence in accordance with his wishes.

The funeral prayers were conducted after Jumu’ah by the Chief Imam of Zuru Central Mosque, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Tanko. Vice President Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the Kebbi State Government, the people of Zuru, and the bereaved family, describing the late Emir as a revered monarch whose legacy of service and leadership would be remembered for generations.

The ceremony drew numerous dignitaries, including the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the 14th Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasiru Idris, former Niger State Governor Alhaji Sani Bello, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, and former Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), alongside other traditional rulers and prominent figures.

In tribute to the late Emir’s military service, officers and men of the Nigerian Army rendered full military honours during the ceremony. Zuru town observed a solemn atmosphere as commercial and social activities came to a halt while residents gathered to pay their last respects.
