The Federal Government has restated its commitment to climate-smart agriculture and coastal resilience, with a focus on the Niger Delta and drought-prone Northern Nigeria.
Anchored on the Energy Transition Plan (ETP) and Climate Change Act 2021, Nigeria is targeting net-zero emissions by 2060. The updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) seeks to cut emissions by 20% by 2030, and up to 47% with international support.
Key initiatives include the Presidential CNG Programme to scale cleaner transport, a new National Clean Cooking Policy, and pilot electric vehicle projects. The government has also developed a National Adaptation Plan to strengthen resilience in agriculture, water, and coastal systems.
Officials say the measures combine climate action with economic growth, creating pathways for green jobs and sustainable development.
