Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, has urged Nigerians to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for the prevailing economic hardship and instead contribute actively to tackling poverty through farming.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Fadahunsi argued that Tinubu inherited a “near-collapsed economy” and has implemented policies that prevented a total economic breakdown. He said the president deserves commendation for his efforts so far, rather than criticism.

The lawmaker emphasized that food production remains central to alleviating poverty, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to embrace farming, even on a small scale, as a means to boost supply and reduce prices.

“Every Nigerian has a role to play. If more people engage in farming, food will be cheaper, hunger will reduce, and poverty will decline,” he said.

Fadahunsi also called on state governors and local government chairmen to take greater responsibility in addressing poverty, stressing that they receive substantial allocations from the federal government that must be judiciously used.

He maintained that poverty reduction cannot be left to the federal government alone, warning that unless all tiers of government and citizens join hands, hardship may persist.
