
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, joined political and business leaders in Lagos on Friday for the funeral service of Dr. (Mrs.) Doyin Abiola, the first female editor of a Nigerian national newspaper and widow of the late Chief MKO Abiola.

The service, held at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, drew a distinguished congregation in honour of Dr. Abiola’s remarkable life and legacy. Among those present were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake, and Senator Gbenga Daniel.

Dr. Abiola, who passed away on 6th August 2025 at the age of 82, was remembered as a trailblazing journalist, mentor, and advocate for women in leadership. Her career at National Concord cemented her status as a pioneer in Nigeria’s media landscape.
In tributes at the service, speakers praised her courage, intellect, and unwavering commitment to truth and justice. The atmosphere was one of both solemn reflection and celebration of a life that broke barriers and inspired generations.
