The Federal Government has announced plans to expand the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme to reach 50 million pupils across the country by 2026.
National Programme Manager of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, Dr. Aderemi Adebowale, disclosed this in Abuja, noting that the initiative will cover children from Primary 1 to 6 while progressively including out-of-school pupils. He said the programme is designed to provide daily nutritious meals at a cost ranging between ₦500 and ₦1,000 per child, sourced largely from local farmers.
Adebowale explained that the expansion aims to boost nutrition, improve school attendance and retention, and strengthen the agricultural value chain. He assured that proper monitoring and partnerships with relevant agencies will ensure transparency and sustainability.
